Mary Ellen Kelly, Director and Head Teacher (Classroom 2)

Mary Ellen has been the owner, head teacher, and Director of Monarch since 1984. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Maryland and a Primary Montessori Certificate from the National Center for Montessori Education in Philadelphia, PA. She lives in Jarrettsville with her husband and enjoys kayaking, skiing, reading and spending time with her family. Mary Ellen holds a Level 6 Credential from the Maryland State Department of Education Early Childhood Division.

Pam Moore, Office Manager

Pam’s relationship with Monarch Montessori School began in 2006 when her oldest daughter began attending Parent Toddler classes.  Her two daughters subsequently attended preschool and kindergarten at Monarch totaling six straight years – lots of miles were put on the car, back and forth to Churchville every day!  After being a stay at home mom for many years, Pam began working in July 2017 as Office Manager and is thrilled to be back at Monarch.

Originally from Downingtown, PA, Pam has lived in Bel Air since 1999 with her husband, Don; her oldest daughter just started high school, the younger one just started middle school, and two cats complete the household.  Pam enjoys reading, gardening, chauffeuring her daughters, and traveling.

Julia Butz, Head Teacher (Classroom 1)

Julia lives in Havre de Grace with her husband, kids, their chicken, Bernadette, and their hedgehog, Scout.  They have been a part of the Monarch family since 2000. All four children attended Monarch Montessori School. One is a graduate of UMDCP, two are current students at UMDCP and one is a junior at HDGHS.

Julia has a degree in Elementary Education from Loyola University in Maryland and an AMS certification from The Maryland Center for Montessori Studies. Julia loves the beach, knitting and spending time with her family.

Chyrl Little, Assistant Teacher and Morning-Care Supervisor (Classroom 2) 

Chyrl joined the staff of Monarch Montessori School in August of 2009 and is an assistant teacher. Prior to joining Monarch, she was a lead teacher of three years olds at Kingsway Learning Center for seven years. She holds a 45 hour certification in Infants and Toddlers and a 90 hour certification in Early Childhood Education. Chyrl holds a Level 5 Credential from the Maryland State Department of Education Early Childhood Division.

Kathleen Weber, Assistant Teacher and After-Care Supervisor (Classroom 2) 

Kathleen joined the staff of Monarch Montessori School in January 2011 as an assistant teacher. Prior to joining our staff she taught kindergarten at a private school for 15 years. She has an AA in Early Childhood Education and holds a 45-hour Infant & Toddler certificate.  She currently holds a Level Five Credential from the Maryland State Department of Education Division of Early Childhood. Raised on Long Island, N.Y., Ms. Kathleen and her husband Frank have been Harford County residents for 30 years. Her family includes two sons, a daughter, a daughter and a son in law, and three grandsons. She also has a Chesapeake Bay and a Golden Retriever. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, quilting, crafting, reading, gardening, and playing word games.

Donna Hinder, Assistant Teacher (Classroom 1) 

Donna rejoined the staff of Monarch Montessori as a teacher’s assistant in December of 2014 after teaching preschool for 12 years in a Harford County private preschool. Both her and her husband, Chris, are Harford County residents where they have raised their three grown children for 31 yrs. She enjoys swimming, yoga, kayaking, walking, golfing sewing, cooking and gardening. Donna attended Towson University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. In summer 2014 she earned her certification in Teaching Children’s Yoga from the Radiant Child Yoga Program.

Robin Jorgenson, Assistant Teacher (Classroom 1)

Before coming to Monarch, Robin had her own home daycare for 23 years. She is married and has one son who lives in Montana. Robin has lived in Harford County her whole life.

She loves the outdoors, camping, hiking, and swimming. Additionally, she likes to scrapbook and read. Robin has an AA degree in Mental Health and Human Services, and she holds a level 5 Credential from MSDE.

Pamela Nixson, Assistant Teacher (Classroom 2)

Pamela joined the staff of Monarch Montessori School in the summer of 2019. Prior to joining the Monarch staff, she was a teacher assistant at Fallston Community Pre-K for 5 years. Originally from Upstate NY, she currently resides in Bel Air with her husband and her youngest daughter, a student at BAHS. Her eldest daughter is a student at Temple University in Philadelphia.

In her “spare” time she volunteers at her daughters’ school, travels to and attends her dance her daughter’s dance competitions and performances and is the owner of her own photography business. Pamela has her 90-hour certificate in Early Childhood Education from HCC.

Pat Hoffman, Tour Director and Sharing the Gift Program

Pat joined the staff of Monarch in 1995, but has taught the Montessori philosophy of education for 30 years to three to six year olds. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology from Towson State University and a Montessori Certificate from Widener University’s Saint Nicholas Training Center. Having recently retired from teaching, she is now enjoying the next phase of her life. She and her husband stay busy participating in activities with six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also, they own a small antique business. Finally, she enjoys “Sharing the Gift” – a program offered by the HCPL where she volunteers to read, share puppets, sing songs and do finger plays with the students of Monarch Montessori on a monthly basis.

Pam Carson, Art Teacher

Pam Carson joined the staff of Monarch Montessori school for a second time in August 2012 as the Art Teacher. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from University of Maryland, College Park. She has also Studied at Towson University, Shenandoah University, Goucher College, and attended The National Center for Montessori Education in Philadelphia.

During her career, she has worked as a scenic artist for the Baltimore Opera Company, a landscape designer, an art teacher, and a teacher for grades one and three, preschool, and kindergarten and has also sailed most of the Chesapeake Bay. A farm in Jarrettsville is home for her, her husband and the former location of The Painted Monkey Art Studio where art lessons and birthday parties were enjoyed for 15 years. She enjoys spending time with her two grandchildren (Daphne and Hendix), her two Montessori schooled sons, and a delightfully creative daughter-in-law, as well as painting and Qigong.

Denise Sennett, Advisor

Denise joined the staff of Monarch Montessori in August 1996 and served as Co-Director. Currently, Denise remains an active member of the Monarch community serving as an advisor and substitute teacher. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Baltimore and also holds a 90 hour certificate in Early Childhood Education. She holds a Level 4 Credential from the Maryland State Department of Education Early Childhood Division.

Additionally, Denise lives with her husband of 30+ years in Bel Air and in her spare time enjoys sewing, kayaking, antiquing, and spending time with her two grown children, both Monarch Montessori graduates.
